Introduction

The Department of Radio diagnosis was established in 1985 with just on X-Ray unit and now has expanded and includes a number of x-ray units, ultrasound unit. Colour Doppler and C. T. Scan. There is also a project to install M R I in the near future. The Department is headed by Dr. A. Q. NAIK  (Prof & H.O.D.). He has a team of 5 consultants, 2 Registrars, number of P.G. students and para medical staff working under his guidance. The doctors and para medical staffs are available round the clock to look and help the patients in emergency. The Department functions throughout the week, attending to emergencies at night and in weekends.

Achievements

1. We had the honor to again A C the 18th Annual Karnataka State Conferences of IRIA pm 19th and 20th May 2001, in Belgaum.

2. Following post graduate students were awarded Gold Medal for securing highest marks in the state in MD Post graduate examination held by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.

X-Ray Department

• We have 3 units in the department out of that 2 have I.I.T.V. attached to it and is used for special procedures. I unit is used for general radiography. In addition we have 6 portable units to cater the non-ambulatory, bed-ridden patients. We have a 500 MA portable unit in casualty for acute trauma cases.

• We do a number of special procedures regularly that include; Barium series. Intravenous pyelography, micturating cystourethrography. Ascending urethrography, Hysterosalphingography, myelogram, Fistulogram, sinogram. T-tube cholangiography, splenoportogram and other procedures on special request.

• Patients have to take prior appointment for routine special procedures, however no appointment in needed in cases of emergency.

C-ARM

• We have two C-Arm units in operation theatre complex available for orthopedic and other interventional cases. Technicians are posted there round the clock to cater the routine and emergency procedures and operations as and when required.

Sonography Department

• We have Seimens Sonoline Adara unit in the department and mobile Accuson unit to look after non-ambulatory and eonate patients.

• We do routine ultrasound of the abdomen, KUB, cranium, thyroid, ANC, E mode ophthalmic, of small parts and transrectal for prostate.

• USG guided procedures are done in conjunction with the concerned consultants.

• No prior appointment is needed for routine sonography, however for USG guided procedure a prior appointment is necessary, except in cases of emergency.

• Patient is advised to come on an empty stomach (6 hrs) and with full bladder f abdomen, KUB and pelvic sonography.

• No other special precautions are necessary

Color Doppler Department

• We have Accuson 128 XP state of art Colour Doppler machine.

• We do Colour Doppler studies of peripheral arterial and venous system, renal system, aorta and 1. V. C., hepato-splenic. Carotid system and obstetric cases.

• The appointment for the above has to be taken in Cardiology 0 PD for routine cases, however no appointment is needed in cases of emergency

C. T. Scan Department

• The Department of C .T. Scan was established in 1995 for C.T. scanning brain and body and was first of its kind in North Karnataka. This was the first Department to start functioning in present K..L.E. hospital.

• The C.T. Scan Department has Seimens Somatom HiQ-S scanner giving high quality films prints on 3 M laser Camera.

• C.T. Scanning of brain, abdomen, thorax, spine and limbs are done. High quality 3 D scanning is also done.

• We also guide other consultants for various biopsy and drainage procedure under C T guidance.

• Prior appointment is necessary for abdomen, thorax, spine and 3 D sea except in cases of emergency. No appointment is needed for brain scan.

• We have centralized oxygen, suction and resuscitation kit available round the clock in the department. The anesthetists are available just across the room in cases of dire necessity
