Introduction
The Main
OT Complex located in First Floor (KRISHNA) of the KLES
Hospital & MRC at Belgaum constitutes the hub centre of the
various surgical procedures conducted in this hospital. It
has been designed to provide Nine Operation Theatres along
with its ancillary departments as a compact setup covering
3500sq mtrs built-up area, Various surgical disciplines like
General Surgery, Gyne. & Obstetric, Orthopedic, ENT,
Ophthalmology and other specialized fields like Paediatric
Surgery, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Laparoscopic &
Endoscopic Surgery, Urology, Neuro Surgery and Cardio
Vascular Surgery conduct the operations.

The
OT Complex is designed to provide effective barrier against
infection by way of controlled movement of the staff,
equipment and patients through the protective zone, clean
zone and sterile zone. The disposal zone is provided in the
rear corridor of OT. The details about enclosures in each
zone are as under.
Protective zone -
Changing rooms and Recovery wards, CCTV room etc.
Clean Zone
- Clean movement and rest area, sterile stores. General
supply storeroom, X-Ray Dark room, Lab and Rapid autoclave
room, staff base including office of the Director OT and the
Anesthesiologist's room and Dictation Secretariat.
Sterile Zone
- The operating room and its ancillaries.
Disposal Zone
- The disposal corridor also has Electrical and AC plant
control rooms and a lift to carry the soiled linen to
laundry and the OT waste to the hospital incinerator. The OT
waste disposal is guided by the standard colour code system.
Each
operation theatre is provided with the scrub room, sterile
instruments room, the induction room, exit room and
instrument wash room, all having a direct access to the
operating room. The sterile instrument room and their wash
room are designed to have access to two adjacent operation
rooms to ensure economic use of the concerned staff and
supply of instruments required for adjacent operation
theatres.
OT
lighting
-. In
the Operating rooms, sophisticated shadow less lights
manufactured by the Martin and Confident group have been
provided. The rest of lighting without glare is provided by
the fluorescent tubes PL lamps and incandescent bulbs.
Ventilation-
The Air flow for each OT suite containing adequate humidity
is filtered through Micro and HEPA filters and is cooled to
the desired standard. Air in the OT flows from inside
outwards through the air inlets located in the OT roofs.
Another air flow system of adequately cooled & filtered air
is provided to the rest of the enclosures in the clean zone.
Anesthetic gases and Oxygen supply
-
Nitrous Oxide, Oxygen, Compressed Air and vacuum system are
provided through the pendant boxes fitted inside each OT
which also has a clock and a telephone provided in it. The
latter three are piped to the induction room and post
operative recovery ward also.
Electricity Supply
- The Main electricity supply is stepped down through
transformers and stabilizers to provide regular stable
voltage. For emergency electricity supply, stand by
generators have been provided. An UPS also been provided for
the Cardiac OT.
Water Supply
- The
water supplied through main source, is filtered through
filter plant, and pumped to the overhead tanks. Hot water is
supplied through boilers.
Fire Fitting Arrangements-
Effective Fire Fitting system is provided by fire
extinguishers Fire hose, reels and related installations.
