Brief Biodata &
Contributions to the field of Nuclear Medicine
Dr. G. N. Mahapatra
is a well-known senior consultant in the field on Nuclear Medicine for
the past 20 years. He is the first Nuclear Medicine physician who
introduced Stress Thallium Myocardial Perfusion scans in the country in
the year 1989 at Hinduja Hospital, where he was a Chief Consultant in
the department of Nuclear Medicine. He has completed more than 10,000
perfusion scans till date. He has other pioneer works in the field of
invitro labeling of WBCs in the detection of occult infection and a
novel therapeutic procedure for a treatment of Arthritis. He has also
worked in Lilavati Hospital as a consultant and chief of Nuclear
Medicine for a period of 7 years. At present he is senior visiting
consultant to the department of Nuclear Medicine at Mandakini Nuclear
imaging Center, Chembur and Apollo Hospitals Kalaghoda, Mumbai. He has
specialized in this field in various opacities at U. K., U. S. A & U. S.
S. R. He has published over 50 scientific articles pertaining to
different areas of Nuclear Medicine in various National & International
journals. He has presented over 100 scientific papers at National &
International Conferences. He has been invited to various scientific
gatherings to deliver lecture on various topics on nuclear cardiology
and has chaired many scientific sessions in National & International
conferences. Recently he has attended 49th International Conference of
Nuclear Medicine organized by SNM U. S. A at Los Angeles where he had
lot of fruitful interactions with the various leaders in the different
subspecialty in Nuclear Medicine from all over the world. He has also
taken active part in the reporting session of Dr. Daniel Burman's
department at Cedar Sinai Medical Centre, Los Angeles. On his way back
to India he had delivered a lecture at Singapore General Hospital (SGH)
organized by Dr. Feliix Sundram, Senior Consultant & Head of Nuclear
Medicine Department. After the lecture he has been invited to join as an
executive member to the Asia Pacific Society of Nuclear Cardiology.
He has contributed many important chafers in various textbooks of
medicine such as Current Topics in Medicine, International Proceedings
particularly of IAEA, Vienna etc.
He has founded a society called Nuclear Cardiological Society of India
(NCSI). With his hard effort this young society has completed three
successful National Conferences i.e. one at Mumbai where he was
organizing secretary and one at Delhi (Apollo Hospital) and the third
one at Hyderabad.
He is also the Managing Editor of the News Letter called NCSI News
Letter, which is being published regularly. He is also the Editorial
Advisor for Indian Heart Journal, Indian Journal of Stroke & Cardiology
Today Journal.
He has prepared a
small booklet entitled "GUIDELINES FOR VARIOUS NUCLEAR MEDICINE AND RIA
PROCEDURES". He is writing a book entitled Nuclear Cardiology A
Clinician Guide, which is also first of its kind in Indian Scenario of
Nuclear Cardiology.
He has received
various prestigious awards i.e. "BHARATJYOT", "SAMAJSHREE", "SARVASHREE"
for his significant contribution to the Nuclear Medicine field.
