Overview

The dietary service of the Main kitchen of KLES hospital, started on 09 march 1998. Dietary service in the hospital is as important as therapeutic service & the main objective of our dietary service is to provide better care.

The main function of KLE dietary Department is,

1.  To serve appetising & nourishing meals to the patients.

2.  We plan and execute suitable diets which in addition will have a therapeutic effect.

3.  To provide these diets economically as possible.

The basic principles of this hospital, for a normal, nutritionally adequate diet pertaining to the RDI is based on the Basic five food groups.

Dieticians in this hospital modify the general meals the needs of the individual patients, We also do the supervision of food  in all the wards.

Distribution of food to the patients in bed, is usually by decentralized form in which the food is taken in heated/ sterilize trolleys from the Main Kitchen to the Ward pantry, where it is served to different patients.

Special Features :

  • We have weekly menus based on seasonal variations in vegetables. The menus are planned keeping in mind the therapeutic needs of the patient, colour combination, texture etc.

  • Supervision of the kitchen, stores etc are done by the dieticians regularly.

  • We have started separate trolley for private patients, there the food is served in travs with separate calories/watis for each items. These patients are given fruits usually papaya for lunch it salad for dinner. They have also choice in breakfast and lunch (like cornflakes, bread, sup porridge etc.)

  •  We have also been catering to the needs of patients who come from other countries like UK,  ltaly etc. We give them saute vegetable, s/w etc.

  • All the in patients are met by the dieticians on their rounds and any changes regarding their diet is made and accordingly sent to the patients. We are catering to the needs of critical patients in MICU, SICU, NSICU, PICU, ITU like enteral feedings etc. We give them combination of kitchen feeds and commercial feeds. These feeds are standardized. We have a centralized system for these feeds wherein the attendees of patient come down the particular time to take the feeds.

  • We are attached to the diabetes centre of KLES Hospital. We counsel patient in Diabetic OPD also we conduct camps, have lectures, go to schools for giving nutrition education.

  • We also have internship programmes for postgraduate students of Dietetics as also students of food technology

In conclusion we are covering all patients both (IPD&OPD) and guiding them regarding their diet. Day by day we are making important changes in our department to fulfill the needs of our Patients.
